Nvidia Geforce GTX 1080 – Test

It is over four years ago that the first graphics cards of 28 nanometers made their entrance and then delivered massive improvements in both performance and energy efficiency and price. Since then, new manufacturing techniques for high-performance circuits have shone with their absence, something that has led to a slowdown in development.

The summer of 2016 marks the start of a much-anticipated technological life, where 28 nanometers are passed on to the history books. First out is Nvidia with the architecture Pascal, which is taking the step to TSMC’s 16-nanometer technology, which guarantees the same massive improvements we experienced four years ago.

During Dreamhack Austin 2016, Nvidia officially announced the new generation and today the veil is lifted for all details. First out is the new flagship Geforce GTX 1080, which will not only offer much higher performance than the GTX Titan X, but this will also be accompanied by lower power consumption and price.

A long wait is over and it’s finally time for SweClockers to put its teeth into the next generation of graphics cards!

Update 2016-05-27: The article is supplemented with sound and temperature tests and related material around them. The measurements were not included in the original publication due to practical circumstances surrounding office relocation.
