Nvidia Introduces 3D Vision 2

Nvidia begins the autumn gaming season with 3D Vision 2 and as usual it’s mostly about games in three dimensions. The menu features redesigned glasses, new screens and not least support for stereoscopic 3D in several upcoming major titles.

First and foremost, new 3D glasses are introduced. The new model has a 20 percent larger lens than its predecessors and has also been gifted with a new design that sits tighter around the eyes and thus lets in less light from the sides, which is said to provide better image quality.

At the same time, a bunch of new screens certified for 3D Vision and new 3D Lightboost are launched, the latter a mode that improves the brightness in 3D mode. In addition, updated panels are added that are said to cause fewer problems with shadow images (“ghosting”) than before.

The new screens include the Asus VG278H, a 27-inch with a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels and of course the refresh rate of 120 Hz. Acer (HN274HB) and Benq (XL2420T / XL2420TX) are also on their way out with new models where Nvidia 3D Vision 2 comes with the purchase.

Last but not least, Nvidia reveals that there will be support for stereoscopic 3D for both Battlefield 3 and Batman: Arkham City. In total, there are now over 550 different game titles that work with the technology.

The Nvidia 3D Vision 2 Wireless Kit costs $ 149, equivalent to approximately SEK 1,300. An extra pair of glasses costs 99 USD or around 850 kronor including VAT in Swedish stores. In order to be able to use 3D Vision, in addition to the glasses, a suitable graphics card from the Geforce series and an approved screen with a refresh rate of 120 Hz are required.
