Nvidia is said to end production of the Geforce RTX 2000 series

When leaks and reports of a product launch increase in intensity, it is typically an indication that the launch of these products is close at hand. Reports of Nvidia’s upcoming graphics cards in the Ampere family and the Geforce RTX 3000 series undeniably fit this description, as last month’s leaks indicated everything from specifications to the cooling solution’s design and also partner cards.

The latest round of information indicating that the Ampere family is not far away comes from the Chinese technology portal Ithome. According to industry data, Nvidia has completed production of the flagships of the Geforce RTX 2000 series, which includes the Geforce RTX 2080 Ti, RTX 2080 Super, RTX 2070 Super and RTX 2070. According to the report, both Nvidia and resellers aim to have cleared the RTX 2000 cards from the range when the Ampere cards reach the store.

The purpose of closing production now is stated to be that the prices for Geforce RTX 3000 cards should not have to be raised to make the previous generation more attractive, a strategy that was previously used to sell existing stocks. However, prices for Geforce RTX 2000 cards may increase until then, according to a report from the Chinese site Mydrivers, which believes that increased demand in cryptocurrency calculation can drive up prices for the current generation.

According to Mydriver’s information, Nvidia has announced partner manufacturers to adjust prices to the increased demand, which in addition to the flagship cards is also said to apply to Geforce RTX 2060 and GTX 1660 Super in the middle class. If the information is correct, the prices for the more powerful members of the Geforce RTX 2000 series may increase, while the prices for the RTX 3000 series may be lower than with the previous generation’s introduction.

Both reports indicate that the Geforce 3000 series will be launched in the third quarter of 2020, with September 17 as the potential date. If this is true, the steady stream of leaks will only increase in the weeks leading up to it.
