In the autumn of 2020, Nvidia debuted its new architecture Ampere, which has been released in four models and a fifth is on the way. A common theme for all graphics cards has been and still is a crying shortage. It also does not appear that there will be a solution to the situation in the near future.
A graphics card that has long been reported on and later confirmed by partner manufacturers is the Geforce RTX 3080 Ti with 20 GB GDDR6X. The graphics card has on several occasions been reported to be close to a launch, but each time it has not been discarded. There has been speculation that Nvidia has postponed the launch precisely because of the lack of already launched models.
Gamers Nexus now reports that Nvidia has decided to postpone the graphics card indefinitely. This should not only apply to Geforce RTX 3080 Ti but also other heated ones refreshvariants, such as the previous generation Super models. Whether the decision will also affect graphics cards in lower segments during RTX 3060 remains to be seen.
Nvidia Geforce RTX 3080 Ti is believed to be intended as a counterpoint to AMD’s Radeon RX 6900 XT, which in terms of performance wedged itself between RTX 3090 and RTX 3080. As the graphics card shortage is even worse on AMD’s side, it is possible that Nvidia does not see some reason to rush out with a counterattack. The situation is not expected to be resolved until the second half of the year.
