Samsung Exynos 2200 with AMD RDNA 2 no match against Apple M1

In addition to developing its own processors and graphics cards, AMD is open to licensing architectures to others. One such collaboration that has been entered into is with Samsung, which in the near future will launch an Exynos system circuit for mobile phones with AMD’s graphics architecture RDNA 2 – the same one that houses the Radeon RX 6000 series and the latest generation of gaming consoles.

Now Neowin reports on performance figures for Samsung’s first system circuit with RDNA 2 that has found its way onto the web. The first to find the results was @Kuma_Sleepy (Twitter), which claims that the figures are with an early copy of the Exynos 2200 from June with beta drivers. The integrated graphics part, which according to previous information has six computing units for a total of 384 stream processors, has a clock frequency of 1.31 GHz.

Like many previous data, the Exynos 2200 has no problem with the Apple A14 Bionic, which is housed in the company’s latest phone series Iphone 12. It is different when it mixes in figures from Apple’s computer-oriented system circuit M1, whose integrated graphics part unmistakably outshines Samsung’s AMD-equipped combatant .

While the numbers give a taste of the graphics performance of the Exynos 2200, it is worth adding that Apple will soon launch a new generation of Iphone phones, which are equipped with new system circuits. In addition, in the not-too-distant future, Apple will launch a successor to the M1 with more processor and graphics cores.

It is also worth adding that the performance figures with the Exynos 2200 are from an early model where the clock frequency may be increased for the final product. It is also possible that Samsung and AMD will succeed in getting more performance through new drivers. The answer to all this and much more is to wait until later in the year when Samsung is expected to unveil the system circuit officially.
