Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra and Apple iPhone 12 Pro Max passed durability test

Two weeks ago, Samsung announced the Galaxy S21 Ultra smartphone. Sales will officially start tomorrow, January 29th. The novelty, along with other models of the new generation family, will reach Russia only in a week. Tech blogger Philip Coy decided to test the Ultra version for durability along with the Apple iPhone 12 Pro Max, which has been on the market since November last year.

Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra has an aluminum frame around the perimeter and Gorilla Glass Victus (seventh generation), which is decorated with the front and front panels of the smartphone. The iPhone 12 Pro uses Ceramic Shield glass interspersed with ceramic monocrystals. Apple calls it the most durable on the market. Note that Corning created glass for both flagships.

Both models passed the first stage of the strength test without any problems. Smartphones fell from the height of the belt and head, landing on different parts of the body. During one of these crashes, the Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra lost one telephoto lens with 3x zoom on the rear panel. At the same time, the fingerprint scanner built into the display and the camera continued to work normally. The iPhone 12 Pro Max didn’t fail, either.

Then Philip Coy got a stepladder and started dropping smartphones from under the ceiling from a height of about 3 m. First, the flagship of the South Korean company won a conditional victory. When dropped on the back panel, it remained intact, but in the iPhone 12 Pro Max, the back part shattered into pieces.

After falling face down, the smartphones switched places. The flagship of the American company did without noticeable injuries, and the Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra screen suffered much more, as a result of which the ultrasonic fingerprint scanner stopped working.
