Samsung responds to the locks. It restricts the production of NAND, but we can rest easy

The largest infection outbreak known to any virus broke out in the city of Xi’an, China. This led to the resumption of restrictions and blockades, which affected, among others, Samsung, which had to limit NAND production in its factories located in this city.

Samsung is restricting NAND production at its factories in Xi-an and trying to reassure customers

In Xi’an, Samsung has two NAND manufacturing plants, which together account for 42% of the company’s semiconductor memory production. The original plans to maintain a normal pace of production collapsed due to government restrictions, which will affect the amount of bones that will eventually leave the factories and go to SSDs. How much? We do not know this, because Samsung has not specified the effects of the restrictions, and the company itself cannot know how long the locks will last.

Samsung, announcing restrictions on both factories, said it intends to move production to other plants around the world to make up for any shortcomings and save customers from delays. It is hard to believe, however, that the problems will not end badly, because only these two factories produce the aforementioned 42% of the company’s flash, and Samsung itself can boast 15% of the total global production of semiconductor memory.

If that wasn’t enough, the Xi’an factories are responsible for producing V-NAND with up to 136 layers for disks like the 980 Pro.
