Specifications and performance figures for Geforce GTX 680

Those who are looking for a new graphics card will get another option in a little over a week. On March 22, the Geforce GTX 680 will be launched, marking Nvidia’s entry into the 28-nanometer generation. Even now, however, what are said to be complete specifications and official test results are leaking online.

A table describing the flagship Geforce GTX 680 is published on Chinese Pconline. Just like previous information, the new graphics card is said to be based on the GK104 circuit with 1,536 CUDA cores, 256-bit memory bus and 2 GB of GDDR5 memory.

Nvidia goes high when it comes to clock frequencies and turns up the graphics processor to 1,006 MHz in standard mode and 1,058 MHz in what is called “Boost”. At the same time, the memories get a boost to as much as 6.0 GHz, a new record in the class. However, due to the relatively narrow memory bus (256-bit), the bandwidth remains at around 192 GB / s – the same as for the Geforce GTX 580.

Finally, power supply via two 6-pin PCI Express connectors, outputs for two DVI, HDMI and Displayport 1.2 and support for PCI Express 3.0 are noted. The promise is a TDP value of relatively low 195 W.

However, the leaks do not stop at the specifications alone. The NGF forum discusses a graph that is said to come from Nvidia’s official press material, and the figures are promising to say the least.

According to performance tests, the Geforce GTX 680 is between about 10 and 45 percent faster than the current performance king Radeon HD 7970. The new graphics card in Battlefield 3 performs particularly well with four times anti-aliasing.

However, since the test configuration is unknown, no major conclusions can be drawn from the figures. Anyone who really wants to know what the Geforce GTX 680 is for simply has to endure the launch day.
