Supporting the local economy and the labor market

Chinese crypto hardware maker Bitmain has opened in Texas the “largest facility” in the world for Bitcoin mining (BTC).

In a press release on October 21, Bitmain revealed that the project was completed with the Rockdale Municipal Development District and Canadian technology firm DMG Blockchain Solutions.

The plant has a current capacity of 25 MW, with a 50 MW plant in construction located on a 33,000 acre area. According to official statements, the mining farm can expand to a capacity of over 300 MW in the future. Electricity will be provided through the local supplier, Electric Reliability Council of Texas.

The land located in Tockdale, Texas is owned by the Aluminum Company of America, Alcoa, and previously served as a location for a smelter.

DMG will provide hosting and management services for the Texas mining farm. It will also cooperate with Bitmain to expand the capacity of the plant and to ensure the efficiency of mining operations.

Commitments to support the local economy and the labor market

The news release places a strong emphasis on supporting the local economy in Rockdale, which is east of Austin.

Bitmain also plans to launch education and training programs in blockchain technology and operations with mining data centers. These will be developed in collaboration with the Rockdale School District.

According to plans submitted in August 2018, the new mining farm would create 400 local jobs in the first two years. In total, it is estimated that $ 500 million will be invested in the Rockdale economy over an initial seven-year period.
