The Security Council of the Russian Federation called cryptocurrencies a means of financing terrorism

According to Deputy Secretary of the Security Council of the Russian Federation Yuri Kokov, terrorist organizations are increasingly turning to cryptocurrencies and other new technologies to finance their activities.

Terrorists are actively using international funds and legal companies, while international terrorist groups have very impressive amounts of finance.

“To finance their activities, terrorists are actively using cryptocurrencies, international Muslim humanitarian funds. The firms controlled by them are engaged in speculations on stock exchanges, invest in real estate, in a number of legal sectors of the economy, and participate in criminal business in different countries. Thus, according to UN experts, the financial reserves of ISIS (the Islamic State grouping prohibited in Russia) amount to up to $ 300 million. Along with this, the terrorists continue to look for new sources of financing! ”Said Yuri Kokov.

The Deputy Secretary of the Security Council of the Russian Federation also emphasized that terrorists receive support from international organized crime, drug dealers and weapons. To combat this threat, closer cooperation between law enforcement and government agencies, technology companies and even religious leaders is needed.
