UNICEF accepts donations in bitcoin and ether, also pays out in cryptocurrency

United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund, better known as UNICEF, has launched a crypto fund. This allows them to receive, hold and send donations in bitcoin and ether. The purpose of this fund is to financially support open source technology projects.

These projects must benefit children around the world.

We are now able to receive, hold and disburse donations in cryptocurrencies – ether and bitcoin.

Donations are donated and distributed in cryptocurrency

UNICEF shared this on their website yesterday. They wrote that they also pay out all crypto donations in the same crypto currency. The coins are therefore not converted to fiat.

The first donation has already arrived and comes from the Ethereum Foundation.

The first donation is divided into three parties: Prescrypto, Atix Labs and Utopixar. These companies focus on “medicine prescriptions, matching investors with those in need of funding, community tokens and engagement.”

One hundred ether is from Ethereum Foundation

Aya Miyaguchi of the Ethereum Foundation said at the DevCon event that one hundred ether was sent to UNICEF. That is now worth around € 16,400.

“This is a new and exciting venture for UNICEF,” says Henrietta Fore of UNICEF. “If digital economies and currencies have the potential to shape the lives of future generations, it is important that we investigate the opportunities that they offer. “

“Together with UNICEF, we are taking action with the crypto fund to improve access to basic needs, rights and resources,” said Miyaguchi.

UNICEF is progressive

This is not the first time that UNICEF is doing anything with blockchain and crypto. Earlier this year, the organization spoke with the Kyrgyz government. The two parties want to use blockchain to improve internet access at schools in the country. Project Connect has been started for this.

In December 2018, UNICEF stated that they want to invest $ 100,000 in six blockchain startups. These startups had to deal with global challenges and find the solution in the technology of blockchain. Think of more transparency in health care, managing finances and streamlining the logistics chain.

Last year we also wrote about mining cryptocurrency via your browser. The mined coins are then donated directly via the Unicef Australia website.
