Very few return the Geforce GTX 970

On SweClockers and many other online forums, the discussion about the Geforce GTX 970 and its odd memory management continues. Thousands of angry enthusiasts want to hold Nvidia accountable for marketing the graphics card with incorrect specifications. However, very few choose to go from word to deed.

When SweClockers checks the situation at some of Sweden’s most famous computer stores, it appears that the controversy has hardly caused any rush to the return departments. One of the larger retailers claims that there are only a few dozen repurchases or exchanges, which corresponds to less than one percent of the total sales.

– A lot of people call and ask curiously if it is possible to return the graphics card, but usually it runs out in the sand. Of the small number that go on, many choose to upgrade to the Geforce GTX 980, says a store manager who wishes to remain anonymous.

The same picture is painted by several computer stores, all of which say that only a single percent of customers have so far requested any form of return. Of these, most do not seem to be particularly keen on being without a graphics card, but instead want to resolve the dispute in another way, for example by getting a discount when buying another model.

According to the Swedish Consumer Purchase Act, consumers have the right to request compensation if the product does not match the description. In the case of the Geforce GTX 970, this applies to at least the amount of L2 cache and the number of raster units. However, Nvidia maintains that no errors have been committed and emphasizes that this is not a defect but a deliberate design decision with only a marginal impact on performance.
