Graph is an indexing protocol for decentralized applications that allows developers to access blockchain data efficiently.
Developers can verifiably create sub-charts that define how blockchain data will be retrieved, indexed, and presented.
There are four types of participants in the protocol:
Indexers: node operators that stake GRT to provide indexing and query processing services. Indexers earn query fees and indexer rewards for their services.
Curators: sub-chart developers, data consumers, or community members who point to Indexers which APIs should be indexed by the protocol.
Agents: People who want to contribute to the security of the network but do not want to run a Graphic node themselves.
Consumers: End users who query sub-charts and pay query fees to Indexers, Curators, and Authorizers.
GRT is The Graph’s native ERC-20 utility token with the following use cases:
Staking: Indexers give GRT a stake to provide indexing and querying services.
Deposit: Curators invest the GRT on a binding curve to signal on a particular sub chart and earn a fraction of the query fees.
Delegation: Authorizers contribute by transferring GRT to existing Indexers and earn a portion of the query fees and indexing rewards in return.
Payment: Consumers pay GRT to Indexers, Curators, and Authorizers for sub-chart queries.
Award: Indexers and Authorizers will receive indexing awards in GRT format.
Customers are end users of The Graph that query sub-charts and pay query fees to Indexers, Curators, and Delegators. According to the statements made, customers will pay their query fees through “gateways” or wallets built on open source contracts in The Graph Network.
The graph collected USD 7.5 million from private investors for about 17% of the GRT total token supply between April 2018 and June 2020, and about 6% of the total GRT supply was sold at 0.026 USD / GRT and 0.03 USD / GRT in public token sales. .
