Windows 7 is not compatible with Windows Live OneCare

Microsoft has officially confirmed that Windows Live OneCare not included in the list of security programs for the upcoming release of Windows 7. Redmond admits that the updated version of OneCare for Windows Vista will not work on Windows 7, but will simply throw an error, informing the user that the security product could not be correctly integrated into the new operating room system. However, Microsoft has said that all Windows Vista software will run on Windows 7, with Windows Live OneCare alone now considered an exception.

There are a number of problems users can encounter when using Windows Live OneCare on Windows 7, says Redmond. “The program will most likely not work after updating the operating system, so we recommend uninstalling it before updating.” This error message text will be seen by users who want to upgrade from Windows Vista to Windows 7.

Despite this, there are a bunch of signs by which we can say that the OneCare integration in Windows 7 will never be implemented. OneCare will inform its users that it is not compatible with Windows 7 or higher. For detailed information, you will need to contact Microsoft, you will see such a message immediately when you start the system after updating Windows.

Users who ignore the software mismatch warning during the upgrade and move on to Windows 8 will encounter the following error message after restarting their computer: “The main process in Windows Live OneCare is not running or has been stopped. To fix this issue, try restarting your computer. If the problem persists, click the button below for help. ” When trying to start the Windows OneCare service, the error message will be: “Windows could not start the Windows Live OneCare service on local computer. Error 1150: The specified program requires a new version of Windows.”

Microsoft recommends that all users uninstall OneCare before upgrading to Windows 7. The company has not yet said if support for Windows 7 will be provided, but this is unlikely because OneCare is a dying antivirus. In November 2008, Microsoft announced that it was discontinuing OneCare and wanted to replace it in mid-2009 with another free antivirus software, codenamed Morro. At the moment, there is information that Morro is already integrated into Windows 7 and works great.

“Backups created with OneCare will not be supported in Windows 7. If you have such copies, you must restore them and create new boot files using any other backup program, otherwise you risk losing your data when updating “- added the Redmond company.
