Smart working (or agile work) e telework they are two different concepts, although in common language the two terms are used without distinction. In telecommuting, employees who work remotely are subject to same time restrictions of those who go to the office every day and basically just do their work from home. Smart working, on the contrary, is one agile working methodology which provides not only the possibility of working from home (or from a beach, a park, in the mountains, from a bar), but also offers the worker a certain flexibility in terms of time. It may seem like a minor distinction, but the difference is remarkable, also from the point of view of safety. In the case of telecommuting, the connection always takes place from the same line, and can be made safe with relative ease.
The area of smart working is different, where instead the worker will use different types of connections: that of his home, the tethering of the telephone, the wi-fi hot-spots and, in general, connections that may not comply with safety standards.
For this reason, companies that have activated smart working policies often study safer access solutions for remote workers. VPN, for example, but also solutions of remote desktop, which allow you to access your office computer wherever you are, even with a not particularly powerful computer.
Among the various remote desktop solutions available on the market, Supreme – software developed by the Italian company Nanosystems – stands out for two peculiarities: it is extremely simple to install and configure and is inexpensive. The version free for private use of Supremo can be downloaded here.
Some remote desktop solutions are not that trivial to configure for an inexperienced user, since they often require you to open ports on the corporate and remote worker firewalls. Supremo, on the contrary, does not need it: once downloaded it is ready to work. On any platform, by the way, so much that it supports Windows, macOS, Linux, Android and iOS.
This does not mean that it is unsafe. The data flow is encrypted and the corporate IT team has a number of tools available for block unwanted IDs and allow access only to devices deemed suitable.
From a functional point of view, the possibility of installing Supremo as a service is interesting. In this way, the presence of an operator on the computer that will be controlled remotely will not be necessary. The office computer can therefore always remain on, ready to be used remotely at any time. In remote assistance scenarios, however, the function is very useful Run as, which allows Supremo to show and interact with the UAC windows (User Account Control) even if the remote user is a normal user.
The main features of the product include the following:
Supremo can be used for free, at least for non-professional personal use, but allows the use of only one simultaneous connection. In the corporate context, however, the purchase of a license is required. The price is very aggressive and is less than € 5 per month per license, with a minimum of three users. The price list is available at this address. We point out that the paid version also offers the possibility of being able to customize the Supremo interface, adding the logo and data of your company.
