AMD and Nvidia are said to be launching graphics cards adapted for breaking cryptocurrencies

Earlier this month, it was reported that AMD’s graphics cards sold out at many US retailers. The reason is that the prices of cryptocurrencies, where a popular example is Bitcoin, have increased a lot in recent times, which in turn has led to an increased demand for graphics cards from AMD.

Videocardz now reports that both AMD and Nvidia are working on new versions of already existing graphics cards adapted for so-called mining of cryptocurrencies. In Nvidia’s case, it is said to be a Geforce GTX 1060 with GP106-100, which is a graphics circuit adapted for the purpose. AMD’s equivalent is said to be an unnamed Polaris-based graphics card.

According to the information, the new models have no image outputs at all and are also expected to be limited so that they cannot be used for games. Another disadvantage stated for the graphics cards will be that they only get a 90-day guarantee, but they will also be sold at lower prices than the traditional game-adapted variants.

The new models will not be manufactured by Nvidia or AMD themselves, but will instead be produced and sold by partner manufacturers. Information regarding price and launch is currently unknown.
