AMD demonstrates 8K video editing with Vega architecture

In the near future, AMD’s graphics card Radeon RX Vega will enter the scene. For the first time since the introduction of Graphics Core Next (GCN) and Radeon HD 7970, it is about a completely new architecture, where higher performance per computing unit and the ability to reach higher clock frequencies are promised.

During this year’s NAB Show by National Association of Broadcasters demonstrates AMD video editing in 8K resolution with Vega. While 4K has just begun to make an impact with the broad masses and content creators, it is expected to take another couple of years before 8K begins to take the same step.

The NAB Show event is aimed at the TV and film industry, where Nvidia’s Quadro series of graphics cards dominates today and where AMD has a stated ambition to become more relevant than before. This is probably why the company chooses to have its first public demonstration of Vega on site.

The top circuit with the Vega architecture is expected to have 64 computing units for a total of 4,096 stream processors according to the new architecture Next-Generation Compute Unit (NCU). This is accompanied by a 2,048-bit memory bus with 4 or 8 GB HBM2 for a bandwidth of 512 GB / s.
