Nvidia unveils Geforce GTX 880 with GM204 “Maxwell” in September

There will be no manufacturing leap this year, but AMD and Nvidia will continue to work with a 28 nanometer technology. This does not prevent the two from having new graphics circuits planned for the fall, where Nvidia is planning the GM204 graphics circuit for the Geforce GTX 880 and GTX 870 in the upper performance segment.

Now the blog Videocardz writes that the unveiling of the Geforce GTX 880 can take place earlier than expected. In September, Nvidia is said to hold a major press event where the architecture Maxwell will be presented. The event will also be broadcast live for all to view, not unlike AMD’s launch of the Radeon 200 series in Hawaii last fall.

While the Geforce GTX 880 with the associated graphics circuit GM204 is said to be unveiled in September, the launch will be delayed until a later date. Videocardz writes that the launch will take place at the end of September, which is slightly earlier than the fourth quarter of the year that Nvidia informed partner manufacturers about earlier in the summer.

The same information claims that the GM204 gets a 256-bit memory bus, which is equivalent to the GK104 in the Geforce GTX 770. It is therefore possible that the Geforce GTX 880 will have 4 GB of GDDR5 memory, while less expensive graphics cards such as the Geforce GTX 870 and below can step down to 2 GB GDDR5.
