Graphics card maker AMD continues to work on the Mantle application interface (API), which promises higher performance through lower overhead. The technology, which is still in its infancy, has so far only been available to selected game developers, who have been given the chance to use Mantle and participate in its development.
Now AMD reaches a new milestone in development and invites game developers to take part in Mantle. AMD says that 40 different game developers have already shown interest and that others can apply by following the instructions on the official website.
There are no special requirements to apply, but game developers in “all shapes and sizes” are welcome. Applicants will have the chance to be awarded a place during the next wave of invitations, which will take place on an as yet unspecified date.
Currently, Mantle is only available in Battlefield 4 and Thief, but is also planned for Star Citizen, Civilization: Beyond Earth, Sniper Elite III and 15 future game titles from EA with the game engine Frostbite 3. Crytek has also promised support for Mantle with a future version of the game engine Cryengine.
