AMD Radeon R9 Nano gets full-scale Fiji

The latest Radeon R9 Fury X is just the first of four graphics cards from AMD based on the Fiji graphics circuit. Soon it’s time for the scaled-down R9 Fury to enter the scene and will be followed up later this summer by the R9 Nano, which will be a small air – cooled and according to AMD energy – efficient graphics card.

In connection with Anandtech releasing its review for the Radeon R9 Fury X, the page goes through the Fiji-based graphics cards. Here, the site claims that the R9 Nano will be gifted with the full-scale version of the graphics circuit, which means the same amount of stream processors, texture units, raster units and memory bus as for the company’s newly launched water-cooled flagships.

Driving in full-scale Fiji is attributed to the fact that AMD intends to put a lot of pressure on the graphics circuit. This means that the company can simultaneously lower the voltage and thereby achieve much higher energy efficiency, something that is not possible with a scaled-down variant where a higher clock frequency and voltage would be required for the same performance.

What clock frequency the Radeon R9 Nano lands on is not yet known and it is therefore difficult to speculate in the graphics card’s performance. However, AMD has said that it will have doubled energy efficiency against the Radeon R9 290X and also perform better than that card.

Despite promises of high performance, it is a graphics card that should be suitable for construction according to the form factor Mini ITX, with a length of a paltry six inches (15.24 cm). For this and all of the above, a power consumption of 175 W and power supply takes place via a single 8-pin PCI Express.
