In the not too distant future, AMD’s new Radeon 400 series or rather the Radeon RX series will arrive, where the focus is initially not on the top segment but the middle class. First out will be the price-squeezed top model Radeon RX 480, which is based on the graphics circuit Polaris 10.
Prior to the launch, the American retailer Newegg has received a preview of the model without a cooling solution. Here is a relatively short circuit board with tightly packed components, including a 6 + 1-phase power supply with power supply via a single 6-pin PCI Express connection.
Centered is the Polaris 10 graphics circuit, which is surrounded by eight GDDR5 circuits, which, depending on the design, are 512 MB or 1 GB each. This gives a total of 4 or 8 GB GDDR5 in 8,000 MHz over a 256-bit memory bus, for a theoretical bandwidth of 256 GB / s.
For picture connections, the reference design comes with a single HDMI 2.0, which unlike previous HDMI standards can drive 4K UHD resolution in 60 Hz. This is accompanied by three Displayport 1.3 (1.4 HDR), each with the ability to drive 4K resolutions in 120 Hz.
The launch of the AMD Radeon RX 480 will take place on June 29, and the entry price for the 4 GB GDDR5 variant is $ 199, equivalent to approximately SEK 2,100 including VAT. The model with 8 GB GDDR5 is expected to be $ 30 more expensive, which in such cases corresponds to SEK 2,400 including VAT.
