More details about Radeon HD 7790 “Bonaire”

Last week, details were revealed about AMD’s upcoming graphics processor “Bonaire”, which will be used in the middle segment of graphics cards. The data stated that the graphics circuit has 12 computing units for a total of 768 stream processors. This is contradicted by new findings from German Heise, which received other information after a conversation with AMD at last week’s Cebit trade fair.

The news site reports that there are in fact 14 calculation units. Assuming this is true, the graphics processor gets 896 stream processors and 56 texture units. It also appears that the new graphics circuit will not only be paired with 2 GB of GDDR5 memory, but that there will also be a 1 GB variant.

The “Bonaire” graphics circuit will be placed between the Radeon HD 7770 and HD 7850, with around 10 percent lower performance than the latter. The graphics card will go by the name Radeon HD 7790 and is expected to be available in April.
