Fresh drivers are usually nice, especially when performance gets a push in the right direction. The new Catalyst 12.6 Beta works with all Radeon cards down to the HD 5000 series, with both bug and performance fixes on the menu.
The change log reveals, among other things, solved blue screen problems at Crossfire combined with Eyefinity, and fixes stability problems in games such as Call of Duty: Black Ops and Crysis 2. AMD also takes the opportunity to improve Crossfire scaling in Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, which deteriorated significantly with Catalyst 12.4.
New is also that AMD confirms previous information regarding the launch model for the Catalyst software. Where the company previously invested in updated drivers every month, the packages will instead be released when needed, combined with beta and test versions for the more experimental.
With the release of the AMD Catalyst™ 12.6 Beta driver (“Catalyst”), AMD would also like to announce that we are moving away from our Monthly Catalyst release plan. Our goal is to ensure that every Catalyst release delivers a substantial benefit to our end users; as we have today with the release of the Catalyst 12.6a Beta.
Catalyst 12.6 Beta can be downloaded from AMD’s website for Windows 7, Vista, Windows XP and Linux.
