AMD’s graphics circuit Navi 23 gets 32 MB Infinity Cache

Patch logs for Linux have recently emerged as a popular source for people looking for information on upcoming hardware. Among other things, we have reported on Intel’s upcoming processor series “Lunar Lake” which was found in network drivers for Linux, and also AMD’s aquatic code names Sienna Cichlid and Navy Flounder, code names for the graphics circuits Navi 21 and 22 respectively.

Now AMD is spinning on the fish theme with the code name Dimgrey Cavefish, which by Videocardz is expected to be Navi 23, a circuit intended for the upcoming Radeon RX 6000 card. In the update logs, references to the Navi 20 series L3 cache, better known to us as Infinity Cache, are glimpsed. Just Dimgrey Cavefish is equipped with 32 MB Infinity Cache, which points to a 128 or 64 bit wide memory bus.

Exactly where the Navi 23 circuit ends up in AMD’s graphics card range is unclear at the time of writing, but the low amount of Infinity Cache testifies to performance that makes Dimgrey Cavefish a candidate for an upcoming RX 6500 series. In addition to flounder and greenfish, there are also references to the calculation card Aldebaran, which completely bypasses the game-improving function Infinity Cache.

Aldebaran is said to be the code name for AMD’s upcoming Radeon Instinct MI200, the company’s first design based on MCM (Multi-Chip Module). The card is reported by Videocardz to be up and running in the year 2021, and will take place mainly in supercomputers such as HPE Cray EX. Other details regarding both the Navi 23 and the Radeon Instinct MI200 are currently unknown.
