Nvidia rolls out Resizable BAR for Geforce RTX 3000 series

Resizable BAR has been on the agenda since last autumn’s graphics card launches, mainly through AMD’s technology Smart Access Memory (SAM). In short, the technology is to offer the system’s processor direct access to a larger share of the graphics card’s memory than the 128 MB blocks that have been standard. Even better is that support for the technology is built into PCI Express, but the graphics card makers have waited until now with implementation.

SweClockers has already tested Nvidia’s first staggering steps with Resizable BAR, and noted performance increases of about 5 percent in 1080p resolution. Videocardz now reports that Nvidia’s partner manufacturers Galax and Gainward are the first to support Resizable BAR for other cards in the Geforce RTX 3000 series, ie the cards RTX 3090, RTX 3080, RTX 3070 and RTX 3060 Ti.

The update is currently only listed on the companies’ Chinese websites, indicating that Nvidia has not yet cleared the BIOS with Resizable BAR support for international use. At the same time, Videocardz reminds that Nvidia has promised support for the technology until the end of March – and that an international rollout is likely to follow soon.

Someone who did not rest on his laurels is the user Wesleyxy on the Chinese forum Chiphell, who tested a Geforce RTX 3090 in six game titles with Resizable BAR on and off respectively. The result is a boost in performance of just over 3 percent in the UHD resolution (3,840 × 2,160 pixels) – and here it is also emphasized that the tool published by Gainward Galax and Gainward is not brand specific.

Resizable BAR for cards from Nvidia is, as before, locked to selected game titles at driver level, as the company has previously announced that the technology does not always have a positive effect on performance levels. The adventurous can download Galaxy and Gainwards BIOS updates using instructions published on Reddit and update their RTX 3000 card with support for the technology.

Although the update is said to work with graphics cards of all makes, we advise to wait for a more international and official rollout that will probably take place soon.
