AMD’s Smart Access Memory technology will also be compatible with 400 chipsets

During the launch of the new AMD Radeon RX 6000, the company unveiled a new technology called AMD Smart Access Memory that allowed Ryzen 5000 CPUs to make use of all graphics card memory directly through PCIe, breaking the 256 MB limitations that were in place until now.

This technology, which we detailed in our editorial on AMD RDNA 2 architecture, is compatible with AMD 500 series chipsets with PCI Express 4.0 connectivity, however now it seems that it will also come to users of 400 series motherboards such as B450 and X470.

ASRock and MSI beta BIOS for B450 and X470 include support for Smart Access Memory

The information comes from the fact that the new BIOS with AGESA 1.1.0.0 v2 beta that some manufacturers have implemented on their motherboards, such as AsRock, in addition to adding support for the Zen 3-based Ryzen 5000 such as the Ryzen 9 5950x, also allow enable this option. The company recently removed all reference to the Ryzen 5000 from the new supported Bios, but it appears that the support is still there.

On the other hand, MSI is also releasing beta versions with support for Smart Access Memory on motherboards with B450 and X470 chipsets.

Without a doubt, good news for users of motherboards with 400 chipsets who see how, little by little, they will be able to enjoy the most interesting news of the new AMD CPU and GPU architectures.
