As many as 37 Megapack Tesla energy storage facilities will go to Alaska, replacing combustion turbines

While the future looks like a battery pack other than lithium-ion in the energy storage industry, Tesla has been doing a great job in this field for years. While our thoughts are more focused on batteries made of iron, salt and water lately, there is still a long way to go, while Alaska just got 37 Megapack Tesla energy stores.

Alaska will ditch part of the combustion turbines in favor of Tesla’s 37 Megapack energy storage facilities

Tesla has just completed one of its larger projects in the field of energy storage, which dates back to 2019. It was then because Homer Electric, an energy cooperative based in Alaska, announced a project on the Kenai Peninsula, to which Tesla applied. Now, Elon Musk’s company has announced the implementation of a warehouse consisting of 37 Megapacks, Tesla’s biggest and newest creations when it comes to energy storage.

The megapack has a capacity of 3 MWh and a 1.5 MW inverter, but on the Kenai Peninsula there is an installation with a nominal capacity of 93 MWh. It is also not the largest Tesla installation, as Megapack systems have already been connected in some parts of the world to a capacity of 1 GWh. In practice, the project in Alaska will replace gas turbines and enable better use of renewable energy, and for Tesla it will be a great test of technology in extremely low temperatures.

That’s good because Tesla is constantly striving to accelerate the deployment of its energy storage around the world in Musk’s quest to expand Tesla Energy’s business. We know that a new factory is already under construction, which will produce up to 40 GWh Megapacks per year.
