Baltic 146 PATH is a yacht with the largest system of solar panels

With yachts, everyone would want them, but few can afford them. The exclusivity of the market, however, does not make yacht-producing companies forget about the decades that are important to humanity, in which we will fight climate change. This actually made the Baltic 146 PATH yacht so special.

We know that the Baltic 146 PATH will see a public appearance at this year’s Monaco Yacht Show, showing how recreational tourism can be environmentally friendly. This yacht is equipped with the largest solar system on a sailing yacht in history, which simply includes large solar cells on the hull that collect the solar energy for a battery pack.

The entire installation is the responsibility of Solbian Solar from Italy, which commissioned and in cooperation with the manufacturer of superyachts (Baltic Yachts) designed a solar system with a peak power of 8714 W, which is located on the roof of the yacht, without disturbing its aesthetics or views. This design uses a patented system to curve the solar panels for smoother transitions.

Additionally, as the Baltic 146 PATH has an active sail to minimize shadow effects on the panels, the team also used 154 bypass diodes and 12 trackers to maximize power output. According to official information, all this contributed to the efficiency of 30-50 kWh of energy generated during the day, thanks to which this system can power all on-board electronic equipment, including navigation, autopilot, lighting and entertainment for seven hours.

This is completed by a 44 kWh battery pack of 44 kWh, which frees the project from, for example, a diesel generator and ensures quiet operation for 14-18 hours, while preventing the emission of up to 4.5 tons of carbon dioxide that would be generated by the generator using diesel fuel.
