MOSCOW, 28 Sep — PRIME. Apple Inc is abandoning plans to increase the production of new iPhones this year, as expectations of a jump in demand were not confirmed. This was reported on Tuesday by Bloomberg News, citing sources.
According to the agency, the company has told suppliers to stop ramping up the assembly of the flagship iPhone 14 family by 6 million units in the second half of this year.
Instead, Apple is scheduled to produce 90 million phones during that period, almost the same as a year ago and in line with Apple’s initial forecast made in the summer, the agency’s sources said.
At the time of writing, Apple has not responded to a Reuters request for comment.
Demand for more expensive iPhone 14 Pro models is higher than for entry-level versions, and at least one Apple supplier is shifting production from cheaper iPhones to premium models, Bloomberg reports.
Apple revealed this week that it will start assembling the iPhone 14, unveiled in early September, in India as the tech giant moves some of its production out of China.
