Checkout.com joins the Libra crypto-project

Checkout.com, a company specialized in online payments, has just joined the association Libra of Facebook.

Faced with opposition from regulators, Facebook has profoundly lowered his ambitions. Libra now wants to be a closed payment system. Forgotten (almost) the single stablecoin in favor of multiple local electronic currencies.

A new, more regulator-friendly model which should also allow the Swiss foundation, which has lost several important members like PayPal and Mastercard, to attract new partners.

While Heifer International, a non-profit organization, recently joined the project, we now learn that Checkout.com in turn joins the initiative.

On his website, the payment specialist said he was "fascinated" by the blockchain technology and its possibilities, particularly in terms of payment.

We are technologists at heart and have always been fascinated by blockchain and the potential benefits it could bring to global transaction processing […] We greatly appreciate the opportunity to defend these views by joining the Libra Association, ”wrote Checkout.com.

Founded in 2012 in London, Checkout.com raised more than $ 200 million in 2018 and offers its online payment solutions to major companies such as Samsung, Adidas and Deliveroo.

Guillaume Pousaz, the CEO-founder of the company, explained sharing the same aspirations as the project Libra, to know increase the financial inclusion of unbanked people and give them the opportunity to participate in the digital economy.

It is clear to me and to the entire Checkout.com team that we want to be part of this effort and can contribute to it by bringing our unrivaled expertise in payment engineering, ”he added.

Libra count now 24 members whose Tagomi and Shopify, who joined the association earlier this year.
