Western observers likely underestimated the number of Chinese nuclear submarines developing. The new analysis suggests that there are quite a few of them already, but only half of them are currently operational.
Photos of the Bohai shipyards and Longpo Naval Facility suggest that China does not yet have a sufficient naval army. Two of the four JIN-class submarines are undergoing maintenance or repair at this shipyard. It turns out that China has one more nuclear submarine under development. There are a total of five such ships in production, three at Longpo and two at the shipyard. This means that China may have as many as 8 such submarines.
The photos come from monitoring the area from July 2017 to November 2018, which gave a total of 244 useful photos. China is developing very strongly and may begin to dominate the sea.
