Colombia uses drones to poison cocaine crops

Sometimes modern technology can find application in something completely unexpected. How can we describe the fact that the Colombian authorities decided to poison cocaine crops using drones?

I don’t know why, but it sounds like a mission from some GTA installment. While in Spain, drones save swimmers, in Colombia, a suitable preparation is attached to them, which is then spread over the cultivation of the common dwarf, which is the basic ingredient of cocaine. We were informed about the whole case by the Wall Street Journal, which stated that the government in Colombia is cooperating with a company producing drones. All this so that they produce some mechanism that will allow drones to distribute pesticides across plantations. The fruit of this collaboration is already visible as tests of 10 drones weighing around 23 kilograms have destroyed hundreds of acres of crops.

And where did the idea for such a solution to the problem come from? Isn’t it better to use existing planes with adequate payloads? It turns out not, because drones can provide a real-time preview of the image and simply play the role of regular patrols. In addition, the “spread” of the load in their case is much smaller and allows to limit the damage caused to the environment… and people. The pesticides used affect the human body and lead to e.g. cancer.
