False accounts for cryptomonda Libra have invaded social networks

A series of false accounts about Cryptomonda Libra are spreading on social media platforms Facebook and Instagram.

Washington Post has reported that over a dozen Libra pages have appeared on Facebook and on the Instagram platform.

Some of the false accounts that constituted official entities for Cryptomonda Libra were eliminated on July 22, after Facebook was warned of their existence. Calibra Communications Manager Elka Looks said Facebook eliminates ads and pages on their platforms if they violate social networking policies.

Some fake accounts have promoted a pre-sale of Libra coins at a discounted price.

Many of the accounts used the Facebook logo, CEO Mark Zuckerberg’s photos, or official Libra marketing materials.

Scam sites and fake ads

Buylibracoins.com for example is a scam site that uses a copy of the official Libra logo. It offers users the option to create an account and invest in Libra with Bitcoin (BTC) and other major cryptomonades. The website also created an Instagram account to promote its business, but the page was removed.

False accounts were not limited to Facebook and Instagram. Similar accounts also appeared on YouTube, WeChat and Twitter. Washington Post also reported that a fake video that resembles the style of previous videos on Facebook was broadcast on WeChat.

The appearance of false accounts and the fact that Facebook did not identify them until it was warned by an external source is a major alarm signal.

Eswar Prasad, economics professor at Cornell University, noted how ironic it is that its own Facebook platform might be the factor that will reduce confidence in the crypto project.

And Telegram is being invaded by a series of false ads trying to sell cryptomoneda Libra.
