France plans to increase energy exchange with Germany and Spain

MOSCOW, Sep 2 — PRIME. France intends to increase the exchange of gas and electricity with Germany and Spain as a gesture of European solidarity due to the energy crisis, said the country’s Minister of Energy Transformation Agnès Pannier-Runachet.

“The council paid special attention to relations with Germany and France, since we have a significant exchange of gas and electricity with these two countries. We came to the conclusion that this mutual solidarity should be strengthened starting this winter,” the head of the department said.

In July, the French media, citing sources in the country’s Ministry of Energy, reported that France, if necessary, would be able to supply Germany with 20 TV / h of gas, which is two percent of gas consumption in Germany and five percent of its own consumption.

As Laurence Boon, Secretary of State for European Affairs at the French Foreign Ministry, noted, Germany supplies electricity to France, “and we pledged to supply it with gas.”

According to media reports, the wholesale price of electricity in France and Germany will reach a record high in 2023, exceeding the mark of one thousand euros per megawatt-hour – this is 1000% more than a year earlier.
