G7 condemned any deliberate damage to infrastructure

WASHINGTON, Oct 11 – PRIME The G7 condemns any deliberate damage to critical infrastructure and welcomes the investigation into the incident on the Nord Stream gas pipelines, the G7 document says.

G7 leaders start extraordinary meeting on Ukraine

“We are deeply alarmed by the deliberate damage to the Nord Stream pipeline in the international waters of the Baltic Sea, and we strongly condemn the deliberate destruction of critical infrastructure. We welcome the ongoing investigation,” one of the paragraphs of a joint statement of the G7, published after an emergency meeting, reads.

The attacks took place on September 26 at once on two Russian export gas pipelines to Europe – Nord Stream and Nord Stream 2. Germany, Denmark and Sweden do not rule out targeted sabotage. The Nord Stream operator Nord Stream AG reported that the state of emergency on gas pipelines is unprecedented and it is impossible to estimate the repair time. The Prosecutor General’s Office of the Russian Federation initiated a case on an act of international terrorism after the damage to the Nord Stream gas pipelines.

Earlier, Danish Foreign Minister Jeppe Kofod announced the government’s determination to refuse Russia’s participation in the investigation of the sabotage and the identification of those responsible. As the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova stated, only if Russia is involved in the investigation of terrorist attacks can it be considered reliable and objective.

The statement also says that the G7 countries consider it expedient to explore ways to direct Russian assets to the restoration of Ukraine.

“No country desires peace more than Ukraine, which has suffered casualties, faced forced displacement and endured countless atrocities as a result of Russian aggression,” the statement read.

The G7 countries, in their statement, supported Kyiv’s intention for a “peaceful settlement of the conflict with the Russian Federation”, despite the fact that the Kyiv regime had previously refused negotiations. At the same time, earlier Vladimir Zelensky not only refused to discuss a peaceful settlement of the conflict with the Russian Federation, but also signed a decree on the impossibility of holding negotiations with the President of the Russian Federation.

The document adds that, according to the G7, this “just world” should be based on the principles of protecting the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine, set forth in the UN Charter, providing opportunities for Ukraine in self-defense, as well as guaranteeing its post-war reconstruction.

In addition, the G7 countries are said to want to explore the possibilities of using “Russian assets” for the post-war reconstruction of Ukraine. The leaders of the G7 countries also insist on bringing the Russian Federation to justice for the war crimes attributed to it.

In early October, Volodymyr Zelenskyy signed a decree enacting the decision of the National Security and Defense Council (NSDC) of Ukraine on the impossibility of holding negotiations with Russian President Vladimir Putin. Press Secretary of the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Peskov said that negotiations with Ukraine will have to wait for a change in the position of the current president of the country or his successor.
