MOSCOW, Sep 27 – PRIME. The results of July and August dealt a significant blow to the illusion of a radical reduction in the EU’s dependence on Russian gas, follows from an article by Gazprom Export specialists in Gazprom’s corporate publication.
Experts recalled that the European Commission, “inspired by the favorable situation for Europeans in the first quarter,” announced the possibility of reducing Russian gas imports in 2022 by two-thirds by the end of the year and completely abandoning it after 2023.
“Although the third quarter has not yet been completed, the results of July and August dealt a significant blow to the illusion of a radical reduction in the dependence of the EU economy on Russian natural gas,” the specialists noted.
According to them, the growth of resource production in the region in the first quarter was noted in Norway and the UK. At the same time, Norway admitted that a further increase in production rests on the lack of promising deposits.
In the UK, according to the materials, in the first half of the year, production increased by four billion cubic meters compared to the same period in 2021, but a further increase in production is associated with shale gas, regarding which there is no unity in British society.
