Geforce RTX 2060 resurfaces with doubled memory

Functional crypto-barriers, lower prices and slightly better availability were seen at the beginning of the summer, but as summer now turns to autumn, these trends also change direction. The crying lack of graphics cards thus persists. With almost a year on its neck, Nvidia’s and AMD’s graphics architectures “Ampere” and RDNA 2 have not had time to fit in any inaccessible cards in the lower middle class and entry-level segment.

Rumors now suggest that this will continue in early 2022, at least on the Nvidia side. According to sources to Videocardz, the graphics card giant is preparing to breathe life into the previous generation’s popular mid-range Geforce RTX 2060, which will step up to the same amount of graphics memory as the RTX 3060 – 12 GB. This is double up to the original from 2019 and also 50 percent higher than with the heated RTX 2060 Super. If the information is correct, it can be seen as further confirmation that Nvidia is tracking a shortage next year.

All Geforce RTX 3000 cards are manufactured on Samsung’s 8 nanometers, while TSMC and 12 nanometers are used for the “Turing” and RTX 2000 models. In this way, circuit manufacturing can be spread to various players and this is precisely stated to be the reason why Nvidia is reintroducing an older product. However, the original versions of the RTX 2060 and the Super sibling have survived to varying degrees, but with graphics memory volumes that look relatively small alongside modern products.

When the Geforce RTX 2060 was introduced, the target price was $ 349, which was later adjusted downward to $ 299. The target price for the fresher RTX 3060 is 329 USD, so it is not impossible that 12 GB of memory justifies the RTX 2060 remaining at a recommended price of 299 USD. This corresponds to approximately SEK 3,200 including VAT, but at present real and recommended prices for graphics cards are generally two very different levels.

Geforce RTX 2060 with 12 GB of memory will reportedly see the light of day in December this year, alternatively in January 2022. It thus takes a few months before it is possible to verify whether the rumor is true and in that case what price and availability it belongs to. At the beginning of next year, Intel will also open the store for the first graphics cards in the Arc family, where the simpler models may become direct competitors to the RTX 2060.
