Geforce RTX 3070 is delayed – lands close to the Radeon RX 6000

When Nvidia lifted the veil for the Geforce RTX 3000 series, it was made with the promise that the two performance cards Geforce RTX 3080 and RTX 3090 would reach the market first, followed by the middle class top card Geforce RTX 3070 on 15 October. The company now announces that the launch has been postponed, according to its own statement to ensure good availability from the start.

Production of GeForce RTX 3070 graphics cards are ramping quickly. We’ve heard from many of you that there should be more cards available on launch day. To help make that happen, we are updating the availability date to Thursday, October 29th.

We know this may be disappointing to those eager to purchase a GeForce RTX 3070 as soon as possible, however this shift will help our global partners get more graphics cards into the hands of gamers on launch day.

According to Nvidia’s news site, the company believes that customers’ feedback around the previous two launches shows that customers want more graphics cards to be available at the start of sales. To ensure this, the launch of the Geforce RTX 3070 is delayed until October 29. Nvidia believes that this not only ensures better access for the company’s own Founders Edition cards but also partner manufacturers’ products.

The company also takes the opportunity to highlight the level of performance offered by the Geforce RTX 3070. Compared to the previous generation’s top card Geforce RTX 2080 Ti, the RTX 3070 is said to achieve similar or better performance, and compared to its predecessor RTX 2070, the performance gain is on average 60 percent. This refers to the basic model with 8 GB of GDDR6 memory, and not the infamous future models with a larger amount of memory.

The new release date for the Geforce RTX 3070 takes place the day after AMD introduces the Radeon RX 6000 series, with the RDNA 2 architecture as the base plate. AMD has previously stated that the company’s new graphics card sees good availability at launch. AMD’s event will thus take place on October 28, 2020, and then it remains to be seen whether all the previously infamous models RX 6700, RX 6800 and RX 6900 with XT suffix will premiere.
