Gigabyte renames Geforce GTX 1080 and GTX 1070 to Xtreme Gaming in June

Just in time for Computex 2016, Nvidia will start selling the flagship Geforce GTX 1080, which according to the company really raises the bar against GTX Titan X. Initially, the graphics card will only be sold in the “Founder’s Edition” version with reference cooler, but for those looking for cards from partner manufacturers .

Gigabyte is now publishing an image on a graphics card, the silhouette of which is a copy of today’s Geforce GTX 980 Ti Xtreme Gaming. This is accompanied by the text “Something Xtreme Is Coming” followed by the month of June and the year 2016, something that suggests that the Geforce GTX 1080 and maybe even the GTX 1070 will be equipped with the Windforce 3X cooler shortly after the start of sales.

Lower price for partner cards

Nvidia will start selling the Geforce GTX 1080 on May 27 at a price of 699 dollars and the sibling GTX 1070 will follow up on 10 June for 449 dollars, corresponding to approximately SEK 7,100 and SEK 4,600 including VAT, respectively. However, these prices only apply to the company’s own reference design Founder’s Edition.

For partner manufacturers such as Gigabyte, the lower target prices are 599 and 379 dollars, which with VAT included corresponds to 6,100 and 3,900 kronor, respectively.
