AMD uses its own processors in Project Quantum – has Intel as an alternative

At the presentation of a new generation of graphics cards with the Fiji graphics processor, AMD also demonstrated the Project Quantum concept. The parade number for the computer is that it houses a graphics card with two of the new graphics circuits, which will stand as a platform for gaming in 4K resolution but also virtual reality.

Something that was surprising was that AMD’s own concept is powered by an Intel processor from the generation Haswell. The decision has not completely unexpectedly provoked mixed reactions online due to the fact that the company actually produces its own processors and does not have to rely on Intel’s offerings.

We have Quantum designs that feature both AMD and Intel processors, so we can fully address the entire market. I’m sure you’ve heard AMD leaders speak before about how we’re driving growth in the company and our key businesses, and that one of the key strategies we have for doing that is listening to customers.

In a response to Tom’s Hardware, AMD justifies the decision by saying that Radeon Fury is the “real star” in Project Quantum and that they want to be able to offer customers what they want, even if it means tailoring the system to the competitor’s platform. It is also worth noting that Intel’s processors generally perform higher to lower power consumption, a combination that suits compact systems.

The new thing that emerges is that Project Quantum will also be available with an AMD processor. Whether this means that the system is equipped with the current A-series or FX-series is not clear. It can also not be ruled out that the configuration will be delayed until next year, when the company launches the new architecture Zen with base AM4.
