Gigabyte updates Gaming Box with Geforce RTX 3080 and 3090

The market segment external graphics card dolls offers on paper the best of both worlds – a dedicated box for when tonight’s gaming sessions at home take over after today’s office work. These graphics card docks are generally small chassis with a built-in power supply and enough space for a graphics card, while offering extra USB connections – the idea is to connect the laptop to the dock with a cable and then enjoy desktop gaming graphics.

One of the players in this niche market has since the start been Gigabyte, which under its brand Aorus marketed the product Gaming Box. Original versions of the Gaming Box used specially made, short graphics cards equipped with circuits similar to the Geforce GTX 1080, as well as the RTX 2070 – but now the manufacturer chooses to use an enlarged version to accommodate graphics cards in the Geforce RTX 3000 series.

More specifically, there are two variants, namely the Aorus RTX 3080 Gaming Box and the Aorus RTX 3090 Gaming Box, where the models, in addition to fresh graphics cards, are equipped with water cooling. According to Gigabyte’s press release (via Techpowerup), a 240 millimeter large radiator is used, at the same time as the company states that the graphics card’s power supply and memory have not been suppressed when cooling needs have been taken into account.

In terms of connectivity, the latest version of the Aorus Gaming Box offers a set of simple Thunderbolt 3, as well as Ethernet connectors, in addition to a trio of USB 3.0 connections and PD 3.0 for charging a connected laptop. In addition, invited bling in the form of RGB lighting, where the company’s RGB Fusion 2.0 ecosystem is supported.

No prices or availability dates have been specified – but previous Gaming Box solutions have proven to be unexpectedly competitive in terms of price. More information is available from the manufacturer’s product page.
