Nvidia excludes reviewers who do not focus on ray tracing

With the introduction of the Geforce RTX family, Nvidia showed that ray tracing is a central part of the company’s graphics architectures in the future. The Geforce RTX 2000 series was first released and will be followed up in the autumn of 2020 with the RTX 3000 series, where the architecture Ampere contains upgraded capacity for advanced lighting and shadows with ray tracing. With the Radeon RX 6000 series, AMD also added RDNA 2 architecture to the technology in the architecture.

Technology reviewers who are going to put new graphics cards to the test thus need to evaluate performance partly in traditional rasterization, and partly when lighting and shadows are handled with ray tracing. It seems that Nvidia does not appreciate reviewers who do not focus enough on ray tracing, as the Youtube channel Hardware Unboxed announces that they have been excluded from testing Nvidia’s self-molded graphics card Founders Edition.

The information does not state more than that, and Hardware Unboxed also states that Nvidia will re-evaluate its decision if the channel’s editorial focus changes. Anyone reading between the lines may conclude that access to Nvidia’s own graphics card will not be restored until the channel’s content picks up. ray tracing in greater occurence. Hardware Unboxed promises to update with the status of the case in the future.

SweClockers has not received a request for a change in editorial focus, where more emphasis will be placed on testing of ray tracing. The editorial staff’s test suites are designed to best illuminate the hardware’s capacity, and external companies are not allowed to influence either the focus or the test procedure.
