GIGABYTE Z490 motherboards prices leaked

Comet Lake-S as architecture started from a fairly low point of view and with little enthusiasm in the average user. Little by little it has been discovered as a more than worthy successor to Coffee Lake-S to the point that, possibly, it can turn the tables with Zen 2.

As always, the price / performance ratio will be the key for users to decide, but according to what we are going to see, Intel may not have everything in its favor.

The first data comes from Ukraine and from GIGABYTE

The first prices come from the Ukrainian retailer ITbox, which has already published on its website the prices at which we can see many models of GIGABYTE (among others). The trend is repeated in all the manufacturers that can be consulted, with very similar prices and GAP between the same ranges.

As the plates are not yet for sale, it is difficult to give full credibility to these data, so take them with a pinch of salt in between, but they do seem to be indicative of what we can expect. It should be said that the prices include 20% VAT and that they have been transferred to dollars for the calculations of the MSRP.

Of the 17 models that GIGABYTE presented at Z390, the brand is apparently only going to present 15 at Z490, where the brand will again offer models from ITX to E-ATX format.

Price increases from 27.6% to 61%

Motherboard Pricing Z390 Pricing Difference
Gigabyte Z490 Aorus Xtreme WaterForce $ 1,072 N / A N / A
Gigabyte Z490 Aorus Xtreme $ 757 N / A N / A
Gigabyte Z490 Aorus Master $ 537 $ 369 45.5%
Gigabyte Z490 Aorus Ultra $ 409 $ 306 33.6%
Gigabyte Z490 Vision D $ 393 N / A N / A
Gigabyte Z490 Aorus Pro AX $ 358 $ 234 53%
Gigabyte Z490I Aorus Ultra $ 318 $ 197 61.4%
Gigabyte Z490 Aorus Elite AC $ 288 N / A N / A
Gigabyte Z490 Vision G $ 277 N / A N / A
Gigabyte Z490 Aorus Elite $ 267 $ 208 28.4%
Gigabyte Z490 Gaming X $ 217 $ 160 35.6%
Gigabyte Z490 UD AC $ 202 N / A N / A
Gigabyte Z490M Gaming X $ 207 $ 153 35.3%
Gigabyte Z490 UD $ 187 $ 131 42.7%
Gigabyte Z490M $ 171 $ 134 27.6%

The prices of the Z390 motherboards are chosen within the retailer itself to make a fairer comparison and although the Z390 motherboards have dropped their price somewhat, the differences that we can see are absolutely disproportionate.

We went from the GIGABYTE Z490M with a + 27.6% in its price to the GIGABYTE Z490I Aorus Ultra in ITX format with a price increase of + 61.4%. The average among all motherboards is around + 40.34% of the price compared to Z390, so where is such a difference against users justified?

It is difficult to verify without models in hand, but from what we have been seeing since January, it seems that Intel may approve certain models to support PCIe 4.0 with the arrival of Rocket Lake-S in these Z490s.

This implies that of course the chipset is compatible and the electrical and PCB terminations support the requirements of the new standard. In addition, the number of phases, VRMs and voltage controllers is going to be greatly increased by the consumption of the processors, so the electronic requirements will also be adapted to the needs of the hardware.

Something similar happens with RAMs, where we are already seeing supports for DDR4-5000 officers, which implies very precise control and delineation of the slots to be able to reach these frequencies without too many problems.

But saving this, we do not see a priori more reasons for said price increase, since the new network cards are not a sufficient justification for the increase in cost as such. We will have to wait a little more than a month to verify if this Ukrainian retailer is correct, because if so, Intel is getting itself into a major problem, since AMD is doing just the opposite.
