Google complied with the FAS warning about violation of the antimonopoly law

MOSCOW, 6 Sep — PRIME. Google complied with the warning of the Federal Antimonopoly Service (FAS) of Russia, eliminating signs of violation of antitrust law in Google Play, the service reports.

In early July, the FAS issued a warning to Google for imposing unfavorable contract terms on mobile application developers. The agency found that Google, which owns and operates the Google Play app store, obliged developers distributing paid apps through the platform to use the Google payment system exclusively.

“The Antimonopoly Service analyzed the company’s actions. One of the points of the warning, in addition to the exclusion of the ban on alternative payment methods, was to properly inform the developers about such changes. Based on the results of the analysis, the FAS concluded that the company actually complied with the service’s warning. Google LLC eliminated restrictions on making payments for application developers from Russia,” the message says.

It is clarified that earlier the ability to pay for downloading paid applications, as well as for access to functions and services (for example, paying for a subscription), was provided only through the internal payment system of Google Play, otherwise the company did not allow the application to its catalog. Now developers in Russia can use alternative payment methods, the department explains.
