Media: the largest French aluminum plant will reduce production
MOSCOW, 6 Sep — PRIME. France’s largest aluminum smelter, Aluminum Dunkerque, will cut production by about 20% due to rising electricity prices, Reuters reported, citing sources.
“Aluminium Dunkerque, France’s largest aluminum smelter, plans to cut production by one-fifth in response to rising electricity prices,” a source told the agency.
According to the source, the reduction in production will last at least until the beginning of next year.
The annual production capacity of the plant is about 285 thousand tons of metal.
Earlier, other major aluminum companies announced production cuts at some of their plants in Europe. So, on August 30, American Alcoa announced a reduction in production by a third at one of its plants in Norway due to a jump in electricity prices. Among them is also the Slovalco plant in Slovakia.
