Hacker who hacked Binance Jersey Twitter account will receive cash reward

Cryptocurrency exchange Binance Jersey will pay a cash reward to a hacker who was able to access her account on the social network Twitter, as well as to the main domain.

On Friday, a user with the nickname @ LightningNetwo9 hacked the exchange’s Twitter account and also took over the binance.je domain. He then posted several messages on behalf of the company, saying that he was a researcher in cybersecurity issues and carried out a well-intentioned hack.

According to company representatives, the hacker used social engineering methods in relation to a third-party email service provider with whom the exchange cooperates.

“He posted some messages from the @BinanceJE Twitter account and then deleted them,” writes Binance Jersey. “An ethical hacker got in touch with our security team. “We regained access to the domain name in a few minutes, and to our Twitter account in a few hours.”

When the hacker got access to the Binance Jersey Twitter account, he said that he could take advantage of this and organize a major phishing attack, but decided not to do this, despite personal financial problems.

Binance Jersey reports that it will send a cash reward to the hacker as part of the bug trapping program, and will also investigate the actions of the email service provider.

“Binance.JE funds are safe, like other data,” write the representatives of the exchange.

The company reports that other interested hackers, if they wish, can also report vulnerabilities in the Binance system and thus claim a reward of up to $ 100,000. The amount of payment will depend on the severity of the threat found.
