BELGRADE, Sep 3 – PRIME. Turkish Stream, which pumps fuel from Russia to some European countries, remains the only reliable gas pipeline, Hungarian Foreign Minister Péter Szijjarto told the Tanyug news agency.
According to him, if Serbia, Hungary, Bulgaria and Turkey had not withstood the threat of sanctions and completed the construction of this highway, they would have faced “big problems.”
“Because now the Turkish Stream, which delivers gas from Russia to Bulgaria, Serbia and Hungary, is the only reliable gas pipeline,” Szijjarto stressed.
He noted that other pipelines are operating intermittently, the volume of fuel pumped through them is declining, but the Turkish Stream remains “fully reliable.” According to the Minister, the completion of this pipe was a great success and a manifestation of the courage of the countries involved in this process.
In addition, Szijjarto said that Hungary is not afraid of consequences from Brussels in connection with the decision to continue buying Russian gas.
On August 31, Hungary signed a contract with Gazprom for the supply of an additional 5.8 million cubic meters of gas from September through Turkish Stream and Serbia. Last autumn, the parties already signed an agreement for 4.5 billion cubic meters per year (about 12.3 million cubic meters per day). Thus, Budapest will increase purchases of Russian gas by almost 1.5 times.
