In the Gagauz autonomy of Moldova expressed concern over the lack of firewood

MOSCOW, August 28 – PRIME. In the Gagauz autonomy of Moldova, there may not be enough firewood for the winter in full, said the head of one of the districts of the region, Ivan Topal.

Moldova is experiencing an energy crisis due to rising energy prices. The central authorities of the republic are making attempts to provide the country with firewood, coal and fuel oil. In Moldova, 660,000 families live in houses with stove heating. In general, the country’s population consumes more than one million cubic meters of firewood during the cold season. The Moldsilva Forestry Agency predicts that it will be able to provide about 800,000 cubic meters of the required volume.

The administration of the autonomy notes that in total in Gagauzia 19 thousand 986 families need firewood in the amount of 93 thousand 882 warehouse meters. Most of the applications were received from residents of the Comrat region.

“12,134 families in the Comrat region need firewood. They requested 47,777 warehouse meters, but representatives of the local Leskhoz can provide only 3,165 warehouse meters before winter, which is only 6.6% of the total number of requested firewood,” he said. Topal, whose words are quoted by GagauzINFO on Sunday.

Gagauzia is an autonomous territorial entity in the south of Moldova. In February 2014, a referendum was held in the autonomy on the issue of determining the vector of the country’s foreign policy. More than 98% of its participants spoke in favor of Moldova’s integration into the Customs Union, a trade and economic association that at that time included Russia, Belarus and Kazakhstan.

In mid-July, protests began in the autonomy, hundreds of motorists expressed indignation at the rise in fuel prices. The demonstrators appealed to the authorities of the country with demands to temporarily cancel the excise rate on gasoline, annul amendments to the law on petroleum products, due to which the national market regulator is obliged to raise gasoline prices daily. They noted that if they were not heard, they would hold protests in Chisinau.
