Intel’s first graphics card is demonstrated at CES

After many years of absence and the failure of Larrabee, Intel is on its way back to the graphics card market with the Xe series, which introduces a graphics architecture that has been completely redesigned. During a press conference at CES 2020, Intel demonstrates for the first time the very first graphics card with the code name “DG1”.

The demonstration consists of an ultra-thin laptop with the graphics card inside and a quick session in the popular game Destiny 2. However, Intel stayed there and revealed no further details, but indicated that DG1, which is an entry-level card, is primarily intended for laptops.

According to previous information, DG1 will house the same number of computing units as the future processor family Tiger Lake, which will have the same graphics architecture integrated. However, Intel’s DG1 is expected to be significantly more powerful as it should have both higher clock frequencies and memory bandwidth than an integrated solution.

The DG1 graphics card, which will have a different name when it is commercialized, is expected to be released sometime in 2020. This will later be joined by DG2, which will have more computing units and higher performance.
