Litecoin and Grin work together on MimbleWimble

The halving hype of litecoin has since disappeared and the FOMO has declined. But that does not mean that no more work is being done on the fundamentals of litecoin. Electric Capital investigated the development activity on the Litecoin network, and came to the conclusion that not much actually happened. Litecoin creator Charlie Lee disagrees.

In the meantime, that controversy has cooled down. However, this charge has moved litecoin developers to counteract this picture. Litecoin developers such as Adrian Gallagher are increasingly sharing updates.

Charlie Lee also informed his followers on Twitter about the latest developments. He specifically addressed the implementation of the MimbleWimble protocol. MimbleWimble is intended to offer the user more privacy. According to his tweet, Lee, David Burkett, is the main developer of Grin and a Twitterer named “ecurrencyhodler” is working on the design.

According to a February 2019 report from Beam, Charlie Lee also approached Beam. The Litecoin Foundation wants to work together to integrate MimbleWimble into their network via Extension Blocks.

What is MimbleWimble?

The first time MimbleWimble was discussed in cryptoterms was in 2016. The MimbleWimble whitepaper was shared in a bitcoin IRC chat. What caught the attention of the community was the Harry Potter reference. The name of the protocol itself is a “curse on the tongue” in the famous film series. A chatter named Tom Elvis Jedusor (the French Tom Riddle, or Voldemort) shared the link of the white paper. Shortly after sharing his message, the pseudonym Tom Elvis Jedusor left the project, similar to what Satoshi Nakamoto did at bitcoin.

Another Harry Potter fan, with the pseudonym Ignotus Peverell, started the Grin project. Grin is one of the first two MimbleWimble implementations. The other is Beam.

MimbleWimble is a blockchain application and protocol that must ensure better scalability, more privacy and fungibility (difficult crypto word for exchangeability of coins). Litecoin therefore also wants to include this in their protocol. Now the question is, since litecoin is often seen as a test laboratory for BTC, or bitcoin for a successful implementation, also takes over MimbleWimble.
